Deon commenced her musical studies at the age of six. She completed her Bachelor of Music (Performance) in both harp and piano from the University of Melbourne in 2011. While studying at the conservatorium, Deon studied the harp under Julie Raines and Delyth Stafford, and piano from Igor Machlak. Deon has also played in masterclasses for other leading harpists like Alice Giles and Marshall McGuire.
Deon has performed with the Victorian Youth Orchestra, Youth Philharmonic Melbourne, Melbourne Youth Orchestra and University of Melbourne Orchestra. As an accompanist, she has worked with instrumentalists and singers for performances and examinations. Deon has also premiered and recorded solo and orchestral new Australian works.
Deon performs actively and has played at many notable venues like Melba Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre, churches and hotels around Melbourne. She has also held residencies at the RACV City Club and Park Hyatt. Deon is regularly engaged for weddings and events, her audiences include the Cirque du Soleil and American band Crazy Horse.
Besides being an active performer, Deon is committed as an educator. She is currently studying a Master of Teaching at the University of Melbourne. Deon has also taught children with disabilities and volunteered her time to music therapy programs.
