Deon is an experienced and passionate music educator. She has completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance), Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Master of Teaching from the University of Melbourne. Deon is also a level 2 accredited Kodály teacher with the Kodály Music Institute of Australia and a Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority music assessor. In addition, she holds a Victorian Institute of Teaching registration and Working With Children Check.

Deon teaches harp and piano at her home studio in Fairfield. The beautiful, light-filled space is set in the garden. Lessons are structured to help students achieve their personal goals. Exposure to different genres of music and duet playing are explored in the lessons. Deon can also assist with examinations and auditions. Lessons are accompanied by music theory to build a stronger understanding of music.

Students are also encouraged to participate in Deon's music recitals. The informal recitals are an excellent opportunity to perform in front of an audience, meet other musicians and share what they have been working on. Duets with siblings and fellow students are always a highlight! In addition, Deon conducts school holiday harp ensembles and invites guest teachers in to take masterclasses and trial examinations. These experiences are aimed at enriching a musician's development.

Harp lessons are taught on a Lyon and Healy concert grand pedal harp or Ogden lever harp. Essential harp skills like tuning, re-stringing and maintenance are also emphasised. Harp rental is available from The Harp Lab.

Lesson fee: $60 for 30 minutes
Please contact Deon to discuss more about lessons.
The studio is available for hire when not in use.

  • Building confidence and motivation
  • Following and watching a conductor
  • Teamwork
